Swedish gaming giant Embracer Group acquires copyrights to "Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit

Swedish entertainment conglomerate Embracer Group, through its subsidiary Freemode, has agreed to acquire the film, video game, board game, merchandising, theme park, and stage The company has agreed to acquire Middle Earth Enterprises, a division of Saul Zaentz Company, which owns the worldwide rights to the works. [In 1976, Saul Zaentz Company first acquired the rights to "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Hobbit" and entered into an agreement with United Artists to produce an animated version of Ralph Bakshi (pictured above), which was released in 1978.
