ASIFA-East Animation Festival 2013: Winners List

The ASIFA-East Animation Festival Awards were held last night in New York City, now in its 44th year. The Best in Show award went to "Based on a True Story," a student short from NYU directed by Jacob Kafka. In the Independent Film category, "Sidewalk," directed by Celia Bullwinkel, took first place. Other awards in the independent category went to films by Mark Kausler, Arthur Metcalf, Bill Plimpton, Richard O'Connor, and David Chai.

New York veteran Candy Kugel won first place in the commissioned film category for her TEDEd short "Sex Determination," while first place in the student film category went to Michelle Ikemoto's "Tule Lake," produced at San Jose State University.
