Disney Agrees to Recognize Animation Guild as Bargaining Representative of "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," and "American Dad" Production Workers

The Walt Disney Company's 20th Television Animation voluntarily authorizes the production and IT workers of The Simpsons, Family Guy and American Dad to be represented for collective bargaining by the Animation Guild, IATSE Local 839. Approval.

According to the guild, the arbitrator will conduct a formal card count later this week and certify the outcome.

The news came as TAG announced yesterday that voting members from across the industry overwhelmingly chose to ratify the new three-year contract, which runs from 2021 to 2024. The ratification came after the agreement between TAG and the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers (AMPTP) was announced in May.

Around the same time (May 26, to be exact), the production workers of "The Simpsons," "Family Guy," and "American Dad" were the first to apply to join the Animation Guild and begin collective bargaining for their first union contract.

Included in the new bargaining group are production managers, production supervisors, production coordinators, assistant scriptwriters, production assistants, associate producers, and office assistants for the three shows, IT Supervisor. The artists on these shows were already covered by the Guild's contract.
