View the Sundance 2016 Animated Short Film Selection

The Sundance Film Festival has announced its short film selections for the 2016 edition, which will take place January 21-31 in Park City, Utah.

Twelve animated shorts have been selected for the Animated Short Film category, with at least five other animated shorts appearing in the Documentary Short, New Frontier, and Midnight Short categories. The animated selection is, as usual, diverse, including a viral hit on the Internet ("Life Smartphone"), a Palme d'Or winner at the Cannes Short Film Festival ("Waves '98"), an animated film by independent live action filmmaker Caveh Zahedi ( Bob Dylan Hates Me) by independent live-action director Caveh Zahedi.

The National Film and Television School of the United Kingdom made a particularly strong impression on the animation side of the competition with three of its graduate films: Nina Ganz's "Edmond," Steve Warne's "Pombo Loves You" and Simon Cartwright's "Manoman."

Last year, the Grand Jury Prize for Sundance Short Film went to an animated film: Don Hertzfeldt's "World of Tomorrow" is currently in the running for an Academy Award.
