16 Animated Short Films Selected for Slamdance 2017

Slamdance, the younger, more indie counterpart to Sundance, has announced the animation selections for its 23rd edition, which will take place January 20-26, 2017 in Park City, Utah.

Thirteen shorts have been selected for the Primary Animation Competition, while three others will appear in other sections of the festival. As in previous years, CalArts' Experimental MFA program had a strong appeal with four films in the Competition section. The programmers also turned their attention to the Far East, selecting four films from Asian countries and several films by Asian-American creators.

Here are all the animated shorts from Slamdance 2017. Where available, trailers and the actual films themselves are also included:

The following two animated films appear in the Anarchy Shorts program.

The following animated shorts will be screened before the feature film You Never Had It: An Evening with Bukowski:

Narrative Film (USA) Director: Michael Edwards Michael Edwards Synopsis: The most narrative story that is never told. It has a beginning, a middle and an end. ...... It is at the same time an attack on traditional notions of storytelling in a three-act structure and, perhaps, a futile attempt to escape the narrative impulse of cinema.
