Iranian Animation Industry Holds First Cartoon Session in Tehran

Last week, the animation community in Iran's capital Tehran came together for a unique artist-led event, Tehran Cartoon Sessions, which took place over three nights from September 17-19.

The event, organized by Hoorakhsh Studios and the art space Darbast Platform, offered six case studies of animation projects produced in Iran.

The director and crew of each project were invited to present their production process before a wide audience that included other industry professionals, students, and animation fans. The purpose of this non-profit event was to encourage the exchange of information about animation production techniques in Iran and to create networking opportunities for members of the animation community in Tehran. [Event organizer Ashkan Ragozar, founder of Hoorakhsh and director of the feature film "The Last Fiction. He said, "We don't just want to screen animated films, critique them, and analyze their stories. Rather, we want to provide a practical context in which the difficult process of making animation can be better understood."

Lergozar told Cartoon Brew that his goal is to hold this event every six months, and he plans to include international artists in the sessions.
