Netflix Premieres Trailer for "Kaiju"

From stop-motion works by Guillermo del Toro and Henry Selick to Nora Toomey's hand-drawn work to Richard Linklater's rotoscoped style, Netflix's original animated feature films this year are quite diverse. But the streamer's wide-ranging slate also includes "The Sea Beast," a CG film that has the same look and feel as works from other major U.S. animation studios.

Netflix today released the first trailer for The Sea Beast:

The official synopsis is as follows:

In a time when fearsome beasts roamed the seas, monster hunters were celebrated as heroes. But when young Maisie Bramble stows away on his legendary ship, he gains an unlikely ally. Together they embark on an epic journey into uncharted waters and make history.

The film marks the solo feature directorial debut of Disney veteran Chris Williams, one of the directors of "Bolt" and "Big Hero 6" and co-director of "Moana." In addition to directing, he also wrote (with Nell Benjamin) and produced (with Jed Schlanger) the film.

Animation is produced by Vancouver-based Sony Pictures Imageworks, whose other credits include Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse, The Mitchells vs. The Macchines, Hotel Transylvania 4, Storks, and Over the Moon," among others.

Other announced credits include editing by Joyce Alastair, music by Mark Mancina, and voices by Karl Urban, Zaris-Angel Huttle, Jared Harris, Marianne Jean-Baptiste, Dan Stevens and Kathy Burke.

"Kaiju" will be available on Netflix on July 8.
