Movie: "Marcelle the Shell/She Wears Shoes" Gets Bigger Than Ever in Adorable New Trailer

"Marcel the Shell with Shoes On," which was a critical and audience favorite at its Telluride premiere and SXSW, will be released theatrically by A24. The stop-motion/live-action hybrid film will open in the U.S. on June 24.

The film is an adaptation of Dean Fleischer-Kamp and Jenny Slate's viral short film series, which has been viewed over 50 million times on Youtube since its debut in 2010.

Marcel's big screen debut plays like a documentary, turning to the inch-high shell that lives with grandma Connie (Isabella Rossellini) and a pet lint named Alan. The trailer introduces the threesome with a brief history of how the two shellfish came to lead their solitary lives.

Satisfied but not necessarily content with solitude, Marcel attempts to find a community for Connie and himself with the help of a guest renting the AirB&B where they live. As Marcel expands his search, he finds help in unexpected places and eventually even meets TV idol Leslie Stahl of 60 Minutes.

Produced by Cinereach Productions, with Kirsten Lepore as animation director, Steven Thiodo as supervising animation director, and Edward Thiodo as animation producer.

Fleischer-Kamp directed the feature film adaptation from a script he wrote with Slate and Emmy Award-winning producer and director Nick Paley.
