Sega of America Employees Form Union

On Monday, April 24, a supermajority of workers at Sega of America in Irvine, CA partnered with the Communications Workers of America's campaign to organize digital employees in the technology, gaming, and digital industries to form a union called the "Employees Union to Improve Sega ( announced the formation of the union as AEGIS.

- AEGIS-CWA ? #AEGIS organizers have been communicating across departments to better understand the issues facing all workers at Sega of America. As a result, the group found that nearly one-third of Sega's long-term workers do not hold full-time positions, paid time off, adequate training, or bereavement leave. The group also found that the company's current pay scale is not competitive within the industry and has not kept pace with the rising cost of living.

As Sega employees, our goal is to create high-quality games and cross-media experiences for our wide and dedicated fan base. Our lack of control over our own working conditions greatly hinders this goal. In order to deliver the highest quality products to our fans, we must have the opportunity to make decisions that affect our working conditions. We must ensure that SEGA remains competitive in a growing industry. With wages below the industry average, weak benefits, and lack of pathways to advancement, unionization is our answer.

By creating a union, the CWA, we will have a voice in determining our working conditions and ensure that we have the job security and working conditions we deserve.
