Gum Boy" by Masaki Okuda

Directed by Masaki Okuda, Gum He is a student film produced at Tokyo University of the Arts in 2010. Through a creative and non-literal use of animation that blends the flowing grace of watercolor painting with frenetic camerawork and cutaways, the film deals with the difficult subject of adolescent peer separation. Okuda's masterful knowledge of film technique, narrative, and visual style elevates "Gumboy" to the realm of the average student film and even the average professional short film.
