Nick Cross Goes to the End of the World with "Perihelion"

Canadian filmmaker Nick Cross ("Yellow Cake," "Pig Farmer") has interrupted work on his one-man feature "Black Sunrise" to make the animated short "Perihelion."

Cross described "Perihelion" as "a kind of tone-poem animation, hovering on the border between narrative and non-narrative.

The film draws on his knowledge of fine art, especially German Expressionism and Surrealism. Especially so: Otto Dix, Richard Olze, Ingrid Griebel-Zietlow, Rudolf Schlichter, Max Ernst, and Francisco Goya. It is a kind of homage to the work of these artists who lived during a time of fascism and impending war, which had a truly unique influence on their work.
