Crowdfund Friday "The Last 40 Miles

[A disturbing fact that Austin-based British journalist Alex Hannaford learned when he began interviewing Texas death row inmates in 2003. Now, he has created a fictional animated film based on his interviews with those death row inmates, The Last 40 Miles, which follows "the final journey of a death row inmate" - from his cell on death row to the execution chamber of a facility 40 miles away. The film will employ a variety of drawing and digital animation styles, including rotoscoping.

Hannaford is working on this short film with three artists who teach at the Art Institute of Austin: Jeff Ross, Meg Malloy, and Luc Dimick. They are trying to raise $30,000 on IndieGogo to complete the film. As of this writing, they have raised $18,666 with three days to go. unlike Kickstarter's "anything goes" fundraising platform, IndieGogo uses a "flexible funding" method, Texas Monthly published an interview with Hannaford in which he described the genesis of the film and how it was produced.
