Cartoon Brew Announces 2013 Student Animation Festival Lineup

Now in its fourth year, the Cartoon Brew Student Animation Festival is an online showcase of premiere short animated films by student animators.

The 2013 festival presents one of the strongest and most dynamic short films since the festival's inception. Selected from a record-breaking 266 submissions, this year's eight films represent an exceptional level of creative vision and filmmaking skill. The selected films were created by adventurous filmmakers who explored the narrative and visual possibilities of the art of animation and fully realized their ideas and concepts.

Student submissions were of a higher quality than ever before. In fact, half of the films entered in this year's festival were from schools that had not participated in the festival in its first three years: Holly-Nagy College of Art and Design, DePaul University, University of Southern California, and Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Meanwhile, Eric Koh is the first filmmaker to be selected twice for the festival; his junior film, Troubleshooting, was selected for the festival last year.

The eight filmmakers whose work will be featured at this year's festival will each receive a cash prize of $500 (US), courtesy of the generosity of festival sponsor JibJab. In addition, Evan Spiridellis, co-founder of JibJab, will select another film to receive the grand prize and an additional $500, for a total of $1,000.

The festival will premiere on Monday, July 8, and new films will be screened each week throughout July and August. Let's take a look at the 2013 films for Cartoon Brew's Student Animation Festival.
