Smurfs return to their 2D roots with "The Legend of Smurfy Hollow

I'm tired of three-dimensional CGI Smurfs: ...... With that in mind, Sony Pictures Animation has created a new Smurf "mini-movie" that mixes a few minutes of CG and hand-drawn animation.

The Smurfs: Directed by Stephan Frank (Iron Giant, Despicable Me) and produced by Mary Ellen Border (Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs, Hotel Transylvania), the Halloween The Story.

Selected for the Official Competition section at this year's Annecy Film Festival, the film centers around Gutsy and Blayney Smurf:

when Blayney Smurf is favored to win the annual Smurfberry Hunt for the ninth consecutive year, Gutsy Smurf tries to figure out how Blayney can win every year. Gutsy's investigation leads him to spooky Smurfy Hollow, the very Gargamel trap! With Smurfette's help, can Blaney and Gatsy put their rivalry behind them before Gargamel captures them, or worse, before they come face to face with the legendary ghost, the Headless Horseman? The Smurfs: The Legend of Smurfy Hollow features the voices of Alan Cumming, Fred Armisen, Anton Yelchin, and Hank Azaria; the DVD will be released on September 10.
