How dozens of artists worked together to create a "graffiti project."

Playfully called "a big collaborative group hug," the Doodle Project brings together the diverse artistic styles of 62 designers and 14 musicians from over 20 countries in one compact illustration showcase.

The artists are from more than 20 countries.

Animator Dante Zavala, after creating an animation of a naive stick figure moving, invited several artist friends to flesh out his work by each contributing five frames of character design on top of the existing animation. He was encouraged to extend the project to designers outside his immediate social circle. I made a list of my far-flung idols and started e-mailing everyone," Zavala tells Cartoon Brew. While some of the conversations were "really confusing" at first, the guidelines were simple. Each illustrator would provide one unique character design per frame of animation. The intent was to create a "flickering visual effect" that would make viewers want to pause the video at any given frame and see not only the detailed design work, but also the credits for each artist.

"I didn't think it would be interesting for anyone to get an email from a stranger asking me to design five characters for an animation. But many people, even those who were too busy to participate, were just as enthusiastic about the project as I was."
