Gary Trousdale, director of "Beauty and the Beast," to direct DreamWorks' "Rocky & Bullwinkle" short

DreamWorks today announced a short film for Rocky & Bullwinkle. The film is directed by veteran Disney director Gary Trousdale, who co-directed "Beauty and the Beast" and "The Hunchback of Notre Dame." In recent years, he has directed DreamWorks specials such as "Shrek the Halls" and "Scared Shrekless."

In addition, 95-year-old June Foray will voice Rocket J. Squirrel, whom she replaced 54 years ago. Tom Kenny, the voice of Sponge Bob, will take on the role of Bullwinkle Moose. The press release (below) states that the film will be released in 2014, but does not specify that it will be shown in front of Mr. Peabody & Sherman.

DreamWorks Animation will bring nostalgia to audiences in 2014 with the all-new short film "Rocky & Bullwinkle," featuring the legendary June Foray as the voice of Rocket "Rocky" J. Squirrel. Also in 2014, "Mr. Peabody & Sherman" will be released on March 7, 2014, and will reintroduce the characters from "The Rocky & Bullwinkle Show."

"Her amazing and unforgettable performances have captivated generations of people and earned her a permanent place in the annals of popular culture."

"The Rocky and Bullwinkle Show" (originally titled "Rocky and His Friends") began airing on November 19, 1959, and DreamWorks Animation's next film, "Mr. Peabody and Sherman," was based on "The Improbable History of Peabody," among other Supporting segments also aired. Rocky, Bullwinkle, Natasha, Boris, and other familiar faces kick off the show with all-new antics.

"Rocky & Bullwinkle" is directed by Gary Trousdale ("Beauty and the Beast"), produced by Dennis Nolan Cassino ("Megamind"), and written by Thomas Lennon & Robert Ben Gallant ("Night at the Museum"). June Foray ("Rocky and Friends") will voice Rocket J. Squirrel and Tom Kenny ("SpongeBob") will voice Bullwinkle Moose. The short film will be released in 2014.
