10 Animated Short Films Advance in 2013 Academy Awards Race

This afternoon, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced the 10 nominees for the Best Animated Short Film category, with NFB leading with three shorts. Notably, Pixar's "Blue Umbrella" was not a candidate. (Does anyone know when was the last time a Pixar short film was not a finalist?) BEVERLY HILLS, CA, November 7, 2013 -The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences announced today that 10 animated short films will advance in the voting process for the 86th Academy Awards. Fifty-six films were initially nominated in the category.

The 10 films are listed below, in alphabetical order by title and production company:

The Academy's Jury for Animated Short and Feature Films held screenings in New York and The Academy's Animated Short Film and Feature Film Jury viewed all films up for preliminary voting at screenings in New York and Los Angeles. The Jury for Animated Short Films and Animated Feature Films will now select 3 to 5 films from the 10 shortlisted films. Chapter screenings will be held in Los Angeles, New York, and San Francisco in December.
