Sundance Launches Touring Program of Animated Short Shorts

"Yearbook," directed by Bernard Britt. [According to the Hollywood Reporter, the Sundance Film Festival has announced the launch of a traveling program of animated short films, which will kick off on September 26 at the Sundance Sunset Cinema in Los Angeles and will consist of the following eight short films:

The initial lineup is safe but solid, with well-known filmmakers and festival favorites making up the bulk of the program. While most traveling animation programs try to pack in as many films as possible by selecting films with short running times, Sundance defies conventional wisdom by presenting the 17-minute "Oh Willy..." and Don Hertzfeldt's 23-minute work in the program. Sundance began a traveling program of live-action shorts in 2011, expanding to nearly 60 theaters in 28 states last year. It intends to reach a similarly broad audience with its animation program.
