Academy Awards 2014: Best Animated Short Film Nominee

The Academy Awards typically nominates between 40 and 60 animated short films each year for the Best Animated Short Film category. This month, the Academy will narrow these films down to a shortlist of 10, with the final five nominees to be determined.

Despite the growing interest in animated shorts, this category is the most obscure of the Academy Awards. To better understand the nominees for this award, we tracked animated short films that performed well at national and international festivals throughout the year and combined that data with the Academy's own list of festival eligibility (download PDF) to compile the following list of 30 nominees in the Animated Short Film category

To be clear, we do not know if all of the films on this list were officially considered for the Academy Awards. There may also be films not on this list that are eligible. Nevertheless, this is the first attempt for any animation media outlet to highlight the nominees in this Oscar category, and at least some of the films on the list are sure to be nominated this year.
