Don Hertzfeldt's "World of Tomorrow" Tops SXSW Animation Competition

Don Hertzfeldt's "World of Tomorrow" has won the Animated Short Film category at the SXSW Film Festival in Austin, Texas.

This is the second time Hertzfeldt's latest film, "World of Tomorrow," has won an award at the festival, having won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Short Film at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year. The World of Tomorrow will be available on video-on-demand at the end of March on Hertzfeldt's website.

"Teeth" by British director duo Tom Brown and Daniel Gray aka Holbrooks won the Special Jury Prize for Animation at SXSW. "Teeth" is the story of a misguided and intensely focused man "drawn through his obsession with oral life.

"I am so honored to be part of such a wonderful selection of films," Brown told Cartoon Brew in an email. It's a great honor to have this film recognized by such an inspiring festival."

In the title design category, Imaginary Forces director Dan Gregoras won the top prize for his Los Alamos drama "Manhattan," which airs on WGN America. Jeremy Cox was the opening art director.

The Special Jury Prize for Title Design went to Chris Tozer and Marco Anstis, designers of the dark British indie comedy "The Fitzroy."
