Brooklyn Animation Screening of Dirty Morning Cartoon and The Damnedest She Ever Saw

The Animation Block Party may be over, but the ever-expanding Brooklyn animation scene is keeping the party going with two unique animation screenings in August.

First up tonight at Dirty Morning Cartoons at Brooklyn Fire Proof (119 Ingraham St., in the alley) in Bushwick, Justin Roland, Chic Animation, Leah Shore, Nick Denboer, Felix Colgrave, Janet Bonds, Jamie R., Ian Miller, Sean Glaze, Cool 3D World, Signe Baumane, Lena Green, Rob Yulfo, Sven Stoffels, Preston Spurlock and Joey Altadonna, Pat Cain will screen animated short films by Pat Cain. The program is curated by animation startup Cartuna, who is also the producer of Augenblick Studios' feature film "The Adventures of Drunky."

The free screening will be preceded by a "zine festival" featuring the work of Dirty Morning Cartoon animators and local illustrators and artists. Doors open at 7:00 pm and the screening begins at 9:30 pm. See Facebook invitation for details.

And on August 18, there will be a screening of "The Dumbest Sh!t I Ever Saw" at The Living Gallery BK (1094 Broadway), also in Bushwick. Described as an "animation anti-festival" (it was held once in 2011), the show encourages filmmakers to make dumb animated shorts. This year's organizers are Joy Buran, Noel Melody, and Stephen Su. They say:

After a full day of commercial work, it can be difficult to find the motivation to work on important films. This screening is intended to encourage filmmakers to make something silly without getting worked up.

The deadline for submissions is August 11. For information on how to submit a film and other event details, see the Facebook invitation.
