Watch "Pear Cider and Cigarettes" at Rob Valley: 50% Off Promo Code

Autobiographical animation is a pretty boring genre. Because, let's be honest, if you're an animator, you probably don't have much time to indulge in crazy adventures. Robert Valley's powerful 35-minute film, Pear Cider and Cigarettes, is one notable exception.

Valley has seen some extraordinary things... ...and his friend Techno. In "Pear Cider," Valley's life intertwines with Techno's in a sketchy tale of addiction, violence, brotherhood, and organ transplants on the other side of the globe. The film pushes animated storytelling into a skeletal realm that is rarely ventured into. [Vallee has lent his hyper-stylized drawing skills to such memorable animation projects as "Aeon Flux," "Gorillaz," "The Beatles Rock Band," and "Tron: Uprising. It is amazing to see those skills put to use in his own personal narrative.

The film is currently available to rent or own on Vimeo On Demand, and Cartoon Brew readers can see it for 50% off with the promo code CartoonBrew50.

The film features music by Metallica bassist Robert Trujillo and is produced by Passion Pictures.

An accompanying e-book on the film's production is available for purchase on the Valley's website.
