2018 Oscars: 63 Animated Short Films Competing This Year (Exclusive)

Cartoon Brew has obtained a list of animated short films that have been submitted for consideration in the Animated Short Film category for the 90th Academy Awards.

Sixty-three films were selected for the category, down slightly from last year's record-breaking 70.

Cartoon Brew previously published an unofficial list of shorts that we tracked throughout the year and that could have been nominated for the category, and 54 of the 63 officially nominated shorts were on our earlier list.

The following is the Academy's official list of films eligible to be nominated for the next Academy Awards, which will be announced on Sunday, March 4, 2018:

A review process is currently underway by the Academy's volunteer full and life members of the Short Films and Animated Feature Film Divisions. This group will view all 63 short films at two-day screenings in both Los Angeles and New York City or via online viewing. The 10 most highly rated films will advance to the final round, which will be announced by the Academy after the voting period ends in late November.

The 10 shortlisted films will then be screened again, this time by a larger grouping of short films and animated feature films. This second round of voting will determine the five nominated films, which will be announced on Tuesday, January 23, 2018. The final vote to determine the Academy Award winners is open to all Academy members.
