Annecy Announces 2019 Short Film Competition Selections

The Annecy International Animated Film Festival has announced the first short film competition lineup for its 2019 edition, which will take place from June 10 to 15.

A total of 80 films have been announced. These selections include the Main Short Film Competition (40 films), Off Limits Short Film Competition (8 films), Perspective Short Film Competition (23 films), Young Audience Short Film Competition (9 films), and The competition is as follows.

The selection was made by Festival Artistic Director Marcel Jean, Laurent Million, Yves Nougalade, Sebastien Sperrer, and Peggy Zeigman-LeCarme.

According to the official Annecy website, 45% of the films presented so far have been directed or co-directed by women, the second highest percentage of films directed by women in Competition in the festival's history. In all, 15 short films in the unveiled sections are from Asia, a record number for the region. It is also noteworthy that countries such as Ghana, Saudi Arabia, Mauritius, Singapore, and Iran were selected.
