Artist of the Day Ryan Quincy

Ryan Quincy has been a member of the "South Park" production staff for over 10 years, working as an animator, animation director, and supervisor. Along the way, he has also produced several music videos over the years, which can be seen on his website. [After a long development and pitching period that began in 2008, Ryan's show "Out There," which includes three shorts produced for FOX, recently premiered as IFC's first animated series.

The show was scripted and boarded by Ryan and a small team in Los Angeles and sent to Bento Box Entertainment's satellite studio in Atlanta.

I was thinking of using business jargon to describe a production that spans these two coasts to draw a contrast with a show that ships animation to Asia:

The prefixes "-sourcing" and "-shoring" are fluid: outsourcing gave rise to insourcing, and offshoring gave rise to onshoring. However, onshoring is sometimes referred to as inshoring. Insourcing is sometimes called "back sourcing. Insourcing may be done "onshoring," "offshoring," or simply "remote."

In either case, the animation is produced in Atlanta.

Ryan has said that when he created "Out There," he drew on his childhood experiences growing up in the American Midwest. The quirky designs of the characters also come directly from doodles that Ryan has drawn since childhood, drawing inspiration from the work of Dr. Seuss, Maurice Sendak, Ubu Iwerks, Jim Henson, and many others.
