Is The Hub's "SheZow" the first transgender character for children?

Recently, Breitbart.com's Ben Shapiro reported that Margaret Roche, CEO of Hub, the network that brought us "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic" and "Transformers Prime," will premiere this Saturday (June 1) on Hub claimed that she was under the influence of drugs (and was "left-wing") when she authorized the production of the animated children's series "SheZow."

The "she-larious" show, in which a 12-year-old boy, Guy Hamdon, inherits a magic ring from his aunt and transforms into a female superhero named SheZow, is aimed at children ages 7 and up. in her SheZow form, Guy has superhuman abilities, a skirt, thigh high boots, and a pink transforming car. All of this is triggered by the phrase "You go girl!"

Created by Obie Scott Wade (writer of Baby Looney Tunes) and produced by Kickstart Productions and Moody Street Kids, SheZow has been airing in Australia since December 2012, and as ABC News SheZow has been airing in Australia since December 2012 and, as ABC News reported, has drawn the ire of conservative pundits like Bill Donoghue of the Catholic League. The show's target audience is not adults," Donoghue said. The target audience is young people, many of whom may be confused about their own sexuality."

GLAAD spokesman Rich Ferraro sees it differently: "Just because one of the characters was purple and carried a purse, I don't think the show is addressing transgender issues in the same way that 'Teletubbies' was addressing gay issues. The Hub also rejected accusations of trans brainwashing, commenting that it is "a lighthearted animated comedy that can make kids laugh out loud in dresses and wigs, like Bugs Bunny"
