View Nickelodeon's 12 animated shorts

Every few years, a television network launches an in-house short program to discover new talent and program ideas. This is because artists are not courtesans who can perform on demand, nor can they instantly generate ideas for shows the moment the network asks for them. Talent development is a multi-year investment that requires patience, commitment, and failure. Quite simply, those in charge of program production today lack the foresight and knowledge of how animation works to properly develop the vast amount of talent already employed in their studios.

Of course, that doesn't stop them from launching ridiculous short programs that produce ridiculous shorts and artists who may or may not be cut out for program production. Last year, Nickelodeon added another in a long line of such in-network shorts. Remember, this is the network that passed on producing "Adventure Time," and talent scouting is not their forte. They commissioned a dozen micro-shorts for the show and made them available on Nick's cell phone app. They are not advertised online, but they are posted on the Internet, and I have collected all the links below.

From these pitches, Nickelodeon recently stated in a press release that "six are currently in series development, with two receiving pilot orders." One idea that was pitched for a short program but was not produced as a micro-short is "Breadwinners," created by Gary Dillafaire (aka Gary Doodles) and Steve Borst. The show was recently picked up for a 20-episode order.
