"It's Archie..." Or...?

There's a new Archie in town. This time he's a rambunctious 12-year-old who tackles the problems of today's youth by searching for Wi-Fi hotspots, sending texts, and competing in a pie-eating contest.

In "It's Archie," an as-yet-unsold animated series being developed by Archie Comics and French animation company Moonscoop, the "Riverdale" kids are, according to a press release, "mad scientists, caretakers living in the closet

In "It's Archie," the kids from "Riverdale" are reimagined as young contemporaries in a "wacky, exuberant, off-the-wall, novel adventure" that includes "loopy, alien elements such as a mad scientist, an extraterrestrial who lives in the janitor's closet, and enchanted fog (and pirates)," according to the press release.

The sophisticated--and by no means flamboyant--redesign goes beyond the characters' appearances. It carries over into the motivations and personalities of the cast." In the wacky Riverdale world of "It's Archie," love is measured in puppies, exuberance is in the air, and the impossible can always be solved with the ingenuity of a child ...... Cheerful, playful, and four years removed from their coveted driver's licenses, the "It's Archie" pre-teens are still unaffected by teenage brooding, irreverence, and tantrum behavior. Season 1 of "It's Archie," with 52 11-minute episodes, will premiere at MIP Junior and MIPCOM in Cannes, October 5-10, 2013.
