Trey Parker and Matt Stone Miss Tonight's "South Park" Deadline Due to Power Outage

"South Park" has one of the most rigorous and unconventional production schedules in animated television, with episodes often finishing just hours before airtime. A new episode was scheduled to debut tonight, but the crew missed the deadline because of a power outage at the studio last night. (It speaks to the consistency of Parker and Stone that missing a deadline is such a big deal.) When I worked on "Ren & Stimpy: Adult Party Cartoon," meeting the deadline would have made the news. ......)

Trey Parker and Matt Stone released blackout photos with the following statement:

Tuesday night, South Park Studios lost power. All computers, from animation to rendering to editing to audio, were down for hours and we were unable to finish Episode 1704, "Goth Kids 3: Dawn of the Posers" in time for tonight's broadcast. Trey Parker said, "It sucks that we couldn't make the air date, but I guess it was inevitable that this would happen since we have tempted fate by delivering shows at the last minute for so many years."

Instead of new episodes, Comedy Central will air two old episodes: the "World War Zimmerman" and the classic "Scott Tenorman Must Die." Parker and Stone will live-tweet both episodes under the @SouthPark handle to provide behind-the-scenes production details. The new episode, "Goth Kids 3," will air next Wednesday.
