Shinichiro Watanabe's "Space Dandy" to open in January in Japan and the U.S.

"Space Dandy," the highly anticipated anime series from the creative team behind "Cowboy Bebop," will debut on Adult Swim's Toonami block in January 2014. This marks the first time that Cartoon Network will air an English-dubbed version of the series in Japan at the same time it begins airing in the country.

The American teaser looks fun:

But it's the Japanese one I'm really excited about:

Directed by animation master Shinichiro Watanabe (Cowboy Bebop, Samurai Champloo) and produced by Japanese animation studio Bones, with Keiko Nobumoto ( Wolf's Rain, Cowboy Bebop, Macross Plus), Dai Sato (Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex, Eureka Seven, Ergo Proxy) and Kimiko Ueno (Crayon Shinchan the Movie) will write the script.

FUNimation, the English dubbed production company, describes the show as follows:

Space Dandy is a dandy in space! This dreamy adventurer travels the galaxy in search of aliens that no one has ever seen before. With an ancient robot named QT and a cat-like alien named Meow as his sidekicks, Dandy bravely explores unknown worlds inhabited by a variety of alien species. Join the greatest alien hunter in all of time and space on an adventurous journey that will take you to the edge of the universe.
