Steven Hillenberg, creator of "Sponge Bob," returns to the show.

Paul Tibbitt, veteran of "SpongeBob" and director of the highly anticipated feature film "Sponge Out of Water," made an interesting announcement on his Twitter page a few days ago:

So what does Hillenberg's return mean and how will it change the show - that remains to be seen! I don't know yet. But as far as I know, Hillenberg has not been directly involved with the series for many years, leaving the job to more experienced and capable staff. However, he has not washed his hands of the character entirely, and has been quietly involved with the "Sponge Bob" comics, which have been published by Bongo Comics since 2011.

Fifteen years after its debut, Sponge Bob remains Nickelodeon's top-rated show, and it is safe to say that it will not be going off the air anytime soon. Hillenberg's return to a creative position in the show's history can definitely be seen as a positive development.
