'Celebrity Deathmatch' Returns to MTV2 Ring

Eight years after its second run, "Celebrity Deathmatch" is about to return to MTV2. The network announced today that it has ordered a pilot that could lead to a series.

The clay-animated fantasy fight comedy pits celebrities and notables against each other in a wrestling ring and was created by series creator Eric Vogel (also the creator of "The Head") and Wasteland Entertainment with a " . will be reimagined for the world of social media and the hourly Twitter wars."

The first series ran for 75 episodes and one special from 1998 to 2002. Celebrity Deathmatch was briefly revived in 2006 before being cancelled for a second time.

Vogel did not participate in the revival because he was working at the time on his short-lived stop-motion celebrity satire Starveillance for the E! network. [In recent years, MTV revived both Beavis and Butt-Head and its animated showcase Liquid Television, the latter of which met with limited success.
