-Crunchyroll's first worldwide theatrical release of "Dragon Ball Super Hero

Crunchyroll and Toei Animation announced that "Dragon Ball Super (Super Hero)" will be released worldwide this summer.

According to Crunchyroll, this will be the company's first "truly global distributed theatrical release."

The official synopsis for the film is as follows:

The Red Ribbon Army was once destroyed by Sun Wukong. Those who inherited its spirit created the ultimate androids, Gamma #1 and Gamma #2. These two androids call themselves "superheroes" and begin to attack Piccolo and Gohan. What is the purpose of the new Red Ribbon Army? ...... With danger looming, it is time for the superheroes to awaken!

Dragon Ball Super: Super Hero is the second film in the Dragon Ball Super franchise. The previous film, Dragon Ball Super Broly, was released in 2018 and grossed over $120 million worldwide. It currently ranks fifth all-time at the U.S. box office and was just recently surpassed by "Jutsu Kaiten 0."

Animated films have proven to be the strongest performers at the post-pandemic box office. In addition to the success of "Jutsu Kaisen 0," "My Hero Academia: World Heroes Mission" broke the franchise's global box office record late last year, ultimately grossing nearly $50 million worldwide. And in early 2021, "Demon Slayer: Kimetsuno Yaiba Infinity Train the Movie" became the first animated film in decades to rank number one at the U.S. box office, ultimately grossing over $500 million worldwide.

In Japan, "Dragon Ball Super (Superhero)" will open in theaters on June 11. In other regions, it will be released theatrically in August. Crunchyroll will distribute the film in North America and globally in partnership with its parent company Sony Pictures Entertainment.
