Pixar's New Film "Elemental" Inspired by Peter Thorne's Immigrant Growing Up in the Bronx

Pixar has announced that its next feature film, "Elemental," will be released on June 16, 2023.

The film is directed by Peter Thorne ("The Good Dinosaur," "Cloudy with a Cloudy Mind") and produced by Dennis Ream ("The Good Dinosaur," "Cars 2"). Our story is based on the classical elements: fire, water, earth, and air. Some elements mix with each other, some do not. If these elements were alive ......."

The two are from a city where all the elements - fire, water, land, and air - coexist with each other. According to Pixar's brief synopsis, "Despite their seemingly opposite compositions," "a hot-blooded young woman and a man who goes with the flow are about to discover something elemental.

The studio has also released an early look at concept art for the film's two protagonists and the city they call home.

Recent Pixar films like "Onward, Luca" and "Turning Red" have drawn inspiration from the director's personal life, and "Elemental" is no different. In this case, Thorne drew inspiration from his childhood in New York City. [My parents emigrated from Korea in the early 1970s and built a bustling grocery store in the Bronx. We were one of many families who ventured out to a new place with hopes and dreams, all of us mingling in a big salad bowl of cultures, languages, and beautiful little neighborhoods." That is what led me to Elemental."
