Makoto Shinkai-S "Sparrow" will pass$200M at the global Box Office to become the sixth highest-earning animated film so far.

Powered by an impressive second weekend at the top of the Chinese box office, Shinkai Makoto's Sparrow is now the 6th highest-grossing animated film of all time,

Suzume took the top spot at the Chinese box office over the weekend, adding an additionalド22.7 million to the territory's total and grossingド10 million in the first 82.4 days in cinemas. This is the largest amount of money among non-Chinese films that have hit domestic cinemas this year.

Globally, Suzume finished third over the weekend with aド27.9 million performance from seven markets. In doing so, the film has exceeded theド2 billion milestone and now has a total revenue of22 billion (22110 million).

Now the sixth-highest earning Japanese animation feature of all time, Sparrow will almost certainly pass Howl's Moving Castel ($236.3 million) for this week's fifth place, looks prime to overcome the One-piece film Red (.246.6 million) for the fourth. Suzume is expected to hit many American and European markets on 4/13 and 14. The Super Mario Bros.It's an interesting choice for the release date, given that the film will be in its 2nd week in theaters at the time. The 2 films may not target the exact same audience, but there is certainly a big overlap between the 2 fan bases. It's no wonder why no major studio animation has been released in the West since last year's 12th Puss in Boots: The Last Wish.Crunchyroll, a distributor of Suzume, did not take advantage of the lack of competition in 2023 Q1.
