"Nimona" gets its first teaser ahead of its premiere on May 6.

Netflix today released the highly anticipated first teaser for the upcoming animated feature Nimona until it hits the platform at 6.30 PM after its world premiere at Annecy.

Few titles in this year's Netflix feature-length animation slate have as much buzz and baggage as Nimona. The film was first announced by Fox Animation 7 years ago and has been in development and production issues for years since. When the film was first announced, it was scheduled to be released in 2020 on May 2, but later postponed to 2021 on May 3.

Things went from bad to bad when the film's first producer, Blue Sky Studios, was shut down by Disney after it was acquired in the 20th Century Fox acquisition. Nimona was the last feature film released by the studio before its closure, and despite reports suggesting that a significant portion of the film is already complete, there were serious questions about whether to see the light of day.

On March 4 last year, Netflix announced that it had acquired Nimona in early 2021 and partnered with indie production company Annapurna Pictures to revive the film, with DNEG taking over the animation.

Nimona Details:

Cartoon Brew's View: When Nimona was announced, Patrick Osborne, director of Feast, was in charge. Its flat texture and vibrant lighting from short seem to be the standout features of nimona. How viewers react to more than 90 minutes of their appearance can have a significant impact on the success of the film. In any case, it's exciting when a big studio movie takes an aesthetic risk.
