GKIDS has released the official teaser of Hayao Miyazaki's "Boy and Heron", which will make its international debut at the Toronto International Film Festival on 9/7. It is scheduled to be released in theaters in the United States on 12/8.

This is the first time that most of the world can see anything other than still images from a movie. Studio Ghibli is famous for refusing PR before its theatrical release in Japan on 7/14. That meant there were no photos, no synopsis, no trailers. The first official image from the film was released last month when it was revealed that the San Sebastian Festival will open at 9/22 with Boys and herons.

The description of the film Ghibli, written in the form of a poem, is written as follows:

A boy named Mahito

Longing for a mother

Adventure into a world shared by the living and the dead.

Where death ends,

and life finds a new beginning.

Semi-autobiographical fantasy

about life, death, and creation,

in tribute to friendship,

from the heart of Hayao Miyazaki.

The New York Film Festival to host the US premiere of the film on 10/1, read and shared a more detailed synopsis:

While World War II is raging, a teenage Mahito, plagued by his mother's tragic death, is relocated from Tokyo to a calm country house of his new stepmother Natsuko, a woman who resembles prominently the boy's mother. This strange new world, as he tries to adjust, bewilders the true person, dubbing him the "long-awaited one", and further strangers following the appearance of bedevils persistent gray heron "Indeed, a special and epic fate is in store for our young hero who must travel to the underground alternative reality in the hope of saving Natsuko - and perhaps the 27]

Boy and Heron is an original story written and directed by Miyazaki, produced by Toshio Suzuki, co-founder of Studio Ghibli, and features music scores from Joe Hisaishi, Miyazaki's longtime collaborator.
