11-year wait is over: Dreamworks releases sequel trailer for "Puss in Boots"

Dreamworks has released the first trailer for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish, the long-gestating sequel to the Shrek spin-off Puss in Boots (2011).

The sequel's lengthy development history has ran the gauntlet of corporate feature animation: different concepts, different directors, different release dates – and it even survived the corporate buyout of Dreamworks by Comcast-NBCUniversal. We know Puss in Boots has nine lives, but the production of this film has had an impressive number of lives as well.

Well, now it has finally arrived to the other side and will be released in U.S. theaters on September 23. Here's the film's premise:

The Last Wish is directed by Joel Crawford and produced by Mark Swift, the team behind Dreamworks's The Croods: A New Age. The film's executive producer is Illumination founder and CEO Chris Meledandri.

The character of Puss in Boots first appeared in Shrek 2 (2004), and then co-starred in two other Shrek sequels and his solo film, as well as in multiple Dreamworks Animation videos and tv series. The first PiB film earned $149.2 million domestically and $405.7 million internationally, for a global box office total of $554.9M.
