Teddy Newton, Oscar-nominated director of "Day & Night", signed with Psyop

Prestige commercial studio Psyop has signed a major name from the world of Hollywood animation to its roster: Oscar-nominated director Teddy Newton.

Newton directed Pixar's 2010 short Day & Night and also worked closely with Brad Bird in developing the characters and concepts of The Incredibles franchise. Key examples of his storytelling skills can be seen in the raccoon fight sequence of Incredibles 2 as well as the short Jack Jack Attack, which he conceived. Years earlier, Newton storyboarded and wrote the song “Duck and Cover” for Bird's The Iron Giant. He is also currently designing on Bird's next unannounced animated feature.

Newton's other credits include Ratatouille, Up, Wall-E, and The Lego Movie 2: The Second Part. At Pixar, Newton contributed to shorts like Your Friend the Rat and Presto, and independently, he co-directed the raunchy indie short Boys Night Out.

Newton most recently worked with the Psyop team on Snowday, a Christmas-themed tie-in short for the mobile game Clash of Clans. The film has over 27 million on Youtube alone.

“We are beyond delighted to welcome Teddy onboard, as we've all been a fan of his work for years and so we're ready to see his genius ideas come to life here at Psyop,” said the company's executive producer Amanda Miller in a statement.

Psyop maintains physical studios in Los Angeles and New York, however it finished making its pipeline fully-cloud-based last year. Other recent talent that has signed onto Psyop's roster are Vallée Duhamel and Buda.tv.
