"Soy Una Tumba" has won the top Spanish film competition with 3D Wire, and "Weekend" and "Wildebeest" have also won film awards

The 10th edition of 3D Wire wrapped up in Segovia, Spain over the weekend with the presentation of awards for both its 3D Wire Fest and its Call For Projects segment, which primarily highlights projects from the Spanish animation industry.

On the film festival side, a total of 33 animated shorts were presented in the competition: 26 works in the international competition and seven in the national competition. Topping the international competition was Trevor Jimenez's Weekends, while the best European short film prize was presented to Belgium's Wildebeest (trailer below) by Nicolas Keppens. Both films have already qualified for the upcoming Academy Awards.

The big local winner was Khris Cembe's Soy una tumba (Mum's the word), pictured at top of the post, which won both the prize for best Spanish short and an audience prize. Cembe's film had also picked up the Movistar+ Short Film Project Award two years ago at the same festival, which awarded it a monetary prize for production.

This year's Movistar+ Award was presented to Roc Espinet for his upcoming short Colossal Jane. Espinet's musical short will receive a €9,000 ($10,300) distribution deal from the Spanish broadcaster.

Numerous other awards were also presented to online series and video game projects that had been selected through the event's call for projects. The award for best online series went to Garrote vengativo by Dumb Frame, and the most innovative video game to Islabomba by Sons of a Bit Entertainment.

This year's 3D Wire jury for short films was comprised of Jean Thoren, publisher of of Animation Magazine; Jose Miguel Ribeiro, director and founder of Praça Filmes; Véronique Encrenaz, head of Annecy's MIFA; and Shamik Majumdar, creative director of animation and live-action content, Disney Channels EMEA.
